Drumduan – Student Centred Learning

The ultimate school in student centred learning, Drumduan Upper School. It is a utopian model that is on the extreme side. Tilda Swinton is the big name attached to it and the challenge to traditional education models is very interesting. I love the idea that:

it was important for children to have the freedom to be bored

Students focus on making a portfolio of learning representing who they are and what they know. The immediate reaction to this when reading with colleagues was to point at the question: how does entry to tertiary education work? Do tertiary institutes need to change the way they think about learning? Does this portfolio represent learning better than standardised testing?
